FAU Theatre Lab Celebrates Seven Carbonell Award Finalist Nominations

勛圖厙s Theatre Lab has been recognized with seven Carbonell Award finalist nominations, highlighting the companys excellence in new work development and theatrical artistry.

The nominations are for:

  • Outstanding New Work:泭The Last Yiddish Speaker by Deborah Zoe Laufer
  • Outstanding New Work: The Impossible Task of Today by Jeff Bower
  • Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Lead Male Role, Play: Iain Batchelor, The Impossible Task of Today
  • Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Lead Female Role, Play: Vaishnavi Sharma, The Impossible Task of Today
  • Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Female Role, Play: Patti Gardner,泭The Last Yiddish Speaker泭
  • Outstanding Lighting Design: Thomas Shorrock, The Last Yiddish Speaker
  • Outstanding Sound Design: Matt Corey, The Last Yiddish Speaker

The Carbonell Awards, South 勛圖厙s most prestigious regional theater honors, celebrate artistic achievement across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Winners will be announced at the 49th annual Carbonell Awards ceremony on Monday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. at FAUs University Theatre.

We are thrilled to see the artistry of our playwrights, actors and designers recognized by the Carbonell judges, said Matt Stabile, producing artistic director of FAU Theatre Lab. These nominations affirm our mission to bring bold, meaningful new work to the South 勛圖厙 community.


The Lab also received three 2025 Silver Palm Awards:

  • Gage Callenius, Astounding Performance,泭The Last Yiddish Speaker泭by Deborah Zoe Laufer
  • Iain Batchelor, Actor and Puppeteer,泭The Impossible Task of Today泭by Jeff Bower
  • Nicole Perry, Performer and Choreographer,泭The Impossible Task of Today泭by Jeff Bower

The Silver Palm Awards, which recognize outstanding contributions to South 勛圖厙 Theater, will be presented at a ceremony on Monday, Oct. 27.

Theatre Lab, in 勛圖厙s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, is dedicated to producing new plays, supporting playwrights, and engaging audiences with stories that reflect the human experience.
