FAU, Delray Medical Center and Insightec Advance Alzheimer’s Research
Friday, Feb 17, 2023
This week, Delray Medical Center and ³Ô¹Ï꿉۪s Institute for Human Health and Disease Intervention (I-Health) made groundbreaking progress in a study to treat Alzheimer’s disease using non-invasive focused ultrasound technology. On Feb. 15, the first patient in ³Ô¹ÏÍø was treated with this technology at Delray Medical Center.  The collaborative FDA-approved clinical trial uses focused ultrasound to disrupt the blood-brain barrier, which has the potential to lead to cognitive improvement in patients with Alzheimer’s.
As part of ³Ô¹Ï꿉۪s Brain State initiative, a strategic plan to advance Alzheimer’s research in ³Ô¹ÏÍø, the trial plays an essential role in caring for our state’s aging population. The study is also being conducted at up to eight sites across the country, bringing its impact to the national stage. By establishing the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence last year, ³Ô¹ÏÍø Gov. Ron DeSantis has placed Alzheimer’s disease as a priority health issue in ³Ô¹ÏÍø, which will benefit the more than 580,000 people now living with Alzheimer’s as well as their families.
We are excited to collaborate with Delray Medical Center, Insightec and others on this groundbreaking technology that will revolutionize patient care and create the next generation of treatment options for Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.
